|10:54 pm - Feeling rather pleased with myself . . .|
This evening I received a very nice compliment on my language abilities.
The Ecuadoran waiter at a restaurant I frequent asked me what country I was from because my Spanish was perfect. (His words exactly!)
I feel so flattered.
I never "officially" learned Spanish in school -- I just picked it up from relatives and friends of the family. My parents didn't teach it to me, since they wanted me to speak English perfectly, nor would they speak it to me at home. (A not-uncommon thing in immigrant families . . . )
I've always felt insecure in Spanish since I had no formal schooling in it, so the compliment I received today was very much appreciated by me, since I'm an auto-didact in the language and do not use it much here.
