03:03 am - Connecting via the internet
I've been using the TALK feature of AOL Instant Messenger recently to converse with some of the folks I've met online while playing on Aridor. It's fun to connect a voice with a name (and sometimes a picture) and makes the "chat" feature less of a misnomer. Despite occassional equipment problems it is still easier and quicker than trying to type responses in an Instant Message chat window. It is so much nicer to be able to use the usual auditory clues of pauses, tone of voice and phrasing to communicate rather than the truncated conveyance of meaning and loss of nuance necessitated by use of a keyboard!
