 | You scored as River Tam. The Fugitive. You are clever and dangerous, which is a nasty combination. The fact you are crazy too just adds to your charm. They did bad things to you, but you know their secrets. They will regret how they made you.

Which Serenity character are you? created with QuizFarm.com |
Went to see "Serenity" today, mostly out of curiosity as to why folks I know rave about it so much.
I found out why.
It was a pretty darn good film, with a plot even! One where I didn't see stuff coming from miles away -- one with a few twists and turns, just to make it interesting. One with realistic 3D characters with complex inter-relationships. I'm really not used to that, especially from a sci-fi flick . . .
About a year or so ago I'd seen the pilot of "Firefly" (the series this film is based on) at the home of a friend and thought it was OK. Not great -- OK. I couldn't really figure out why he was raving about it so much -- I'd found it mildly interesting, but nothing particularly worth bothering about. Better than usual special effects, but otherwise just adequate as entertainment.
The movie takes place in the same universe, with the same characters and is later in their lifetime than the part I'd seen before. It is pretty self-contained as a story, so while it's nice to know the "Firefly" series as backstory, it's not really necessary -- although anything of the series that you might have seen will give you a richer and deeper appreciation of the "Serenity" movie.
"Serenity" provides some interesting history and information to fans of the "Firefly" universe and is a pretty decent introduction to it for those who are unfamiliar with it. It's a good stand-alone movie, which is often not the case with other films set in a particular universe. (Certain Star Trek movies come to mind . . . )
I'm not going gaga over it, as I did for "Lord of War", but it was definitely worth the price of admission. I might even try to see the rest of the "Firefly" series.
As for the above meme, after seeing "Serenity", I'm kind of glad I came up as River Tam. She's interesting in a lot of ways -- some of which might be spoilers for those who haven't seen the movie, so I won't mention them. I liked some of the way she handled situations, especially towards the end of the movie -- she has a lot of depth to her character and it would be nice to see more of her.
Rumor has it that if the movie does well, the "Firefly" series might return. If so, then I might get to find out a wee bit more about Miss Tam . . . Current Mood: content Current Music: "Wrathchild" by Iron Maiden
