|01:14 am - I just committed to LiveJournal|
I'd heard about the one-day sale of Permanent Accounts purely by accident while reading the Friends page of one of my LJ friends and decided to take advantage of it while the opportunity existed.
Why cough up $150 all at one time instead of $25/year?
Because I'm a ditz with a memory like a sieve.
Knowing me, I'd forget to renew my paid account and it would revert to the plain-vanilla freebie account, playing havoc with whatever icons I'd associated with various posts, since I'd be cut back to three again. I've been a freebie member since starting my LJ, so I've only used 3 icons so far, but I'd like to use more. As a permanent account holder, I can now have 100 icons -- WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! I know that the first new one I'll be uploading and using will be based on a photo of me and will be used exclusively for friends-only posts, in keeping with my preference for not having any photo of me that shows my face clearly available to the web-surfing public. (I value my privacy!)
There are other perks associated with having a permanent account beyond having lots of icons, such as NEVER NEEDING TO PAY AGAIN! (The main reason for my coughing up the $$$, as mentioned above!!) Since I've already had this LiveJournal for almost 2 years, and my DeadJournal for almost 3, there's a pretty good chance I'll still be scribbling in this online diary 6 years from now, so it's cost-effective as far as I'm concerned. I can also now tweak my LJ style -- I've long been able to do that to my DeadJournal, which is in an almost identical style to my LiveJournal -- and now I'll be able to make my LJ look less blah. In addition, I can now add more links to other sites -- hooray!! There's LOTS of fun HTML goodies and tweaks I'd LOVE to use -- and now I can! :D
One of the more interesting features of paid and permanent accounts is that one may now do Phone Posts in mp3 format. Given the current trendiness of "pod-casting", I have considered using this feature as a way of doing some pod-casting of my own. Not sure yet what it'll be about, but it might be fun to play with . . .
If any of the above is something you'd like for your own LiveJournal, and you have the ready cash to cough up immediately to pay for it, go buy yourself a Permanent Account while you can -- the 24 hour sale ends at midnight tonight!
