|05:42 pm - From April to August and back again|
The past few days have been unseasonable hot, in the mid-to-upper 80s, and today it's expected to hit the old record of 90, and possibly surpass it. Then tomorrow we go back to 40s and 50s.
In order to escape the oppressive heat and humidity today, I escaped to the movies and watched the latest Jason Statham flick, "Crank: High Voltage". It was quite a romp -- a live-action cartoon of a movie, with various improbable and downright silly things happening, but a lot of fun. I got a particular kick out of the scenes at the track, but the whole thing was great, a cult classic in my opinion. I particularly liked the posse of bad-ass gay leather daddies, for turning a stereotype on its head then tickling its toes. The only thing I found annoying was the hyper-real cinematography -- it was interesting when Ridley Scott did it in "Gladiator" but at this point it's become cliche, although it did kind of work here, given the over-the-top-ness of the film and Statham's Timex-watch character, Chev Chelios.
