|11:47 pm - The moomintroll hair metal cello concert|
Went with kitapsolucani to see Apocalyptica play live tonight. She and I had the best time -- the concert was beyond fabulous and we got a great spot, right in front, at the barrier towards the corner of the stage, so we had unobstructed views of our favorite cellists.
The music was mostly from the new album, with some Metallica tossed in, as well as some stuff from prior records. It was great seeing them playing live, tossing their hair around and doing Hendrix-like moves with their cellos and the dueling-instruments thing usually seen with rhythm & lead guitarists in more conventional metal groups. The singer was really good too -- I think it was Adam Gontier, but I'm not positive about that -- and he sang passionately on the numbers he did, like "I'm Not Jesus" and "Path". They also did "Helden" in German, after an audience poll. There was a three-song encore too, which included a kickass version of "In the Hall of the Mountain King" -- Grieg never sounded so good!
kitapsolucani & I also picked up some souveniers at the show -- I came away with two T-shirts (including the tour one) and the CD signed by the four members of the group. (Perttu was my favorite -- not only is he cute as a button, but he did funny patter between the songs in the most adorable accent I've heard in a long time. And he headbanged for almost every song too!)
I hope they do another tour here soon, since I'd love to see them again.
