09:23 am - And so it ends . . .
I received an email this morning informing me that the musical group I'd been with for many years, Four Winds Earth Chorus, has now officially disbanded.

I'd been a member of the group almost since its inception, for a total of seven and a half years. Due to "creative differences", I'd decided to part ways with the others at the beginning of September 2001 (prior to 9/11, BTW). I did it with a lot of regret, but at the time I'd felt it was the best thing to do -- a decision that in retrospect I still believe was correct. Other members with whom I'd drummed and sang for years had also come to that decision and had voted with their feet, some before me, some after.

I was on the first album Four Winds did, We Each Send a Voice, but not the second. It was events leading up to that second album that caused me to reconsider my participation in the group.

I'd heard after I left that the group was having more and more problems, as detailed on the Four Winds site where Kurt talks about the decision to disband. Given things that were occurring at the time I left, frankly I'm not surprised at what happened -- only that it took Kurt as long as it did to finally acknowledge the reality of the situation.

There are times I wish things had been other than what they were, but the situation was what it was.

I'm sad the group was unable to continue as it was -- it was a lot of fun at times and I made some great friends I have to this day.

Our voices are raised in joy and praise
To honor the powers, the people and Ways
To awaken our minds, to open our hearts
To lift our spirits, we each send a voice

Between the Worlds, Four Winds blow
In a sacred manner, Four Winds blow
For all our Relations, Four Winds blow

Listen, Listen...

Current Mood: sadsad
Current Music: "Charge of the Winds" by Four Winds Earth Chorus
