|09:41 pm - A speedbump on the information superhighway|
My DSL is out and the only way I can get online is by dialup. The company has no idea when service will be restored to my area.
Without broadband, I can't access Second Life, which I do as a business. I tried to contact the ISP's billing department to see about getting a credit for the outage, but they're closed until tomorrow.
After having broadband for several years, going back to dialup is an exercise in frustration, since things take an everlastingly long time to load, even text-only things like stories from the newswires. (Although now I'm very glad I kept my dialup connection as a backup -- sometimes being a pessimist can be quite useful!)
Well, it seems like I'll be watching DVDs for the rest of the evening, or reading a book, since my normal computer-based entertainment is unavailable.

is a virtual world where you can do pretty much anything you like that is within the Terms of Service. (No gambling or sexual ageplay though!) There are people from all over the world in Second Life and it's really great for keeping in touch with folks far away.
You can be human, alien, animal or even child if you wish -- you create an avatar and use it to explore all the places within Second Life. I have my own place there that is targeted towards kinky pagans and their friends called Persephone's Grove -- once you join
and create an account, you can go directly there by clicking on this link
after you've installed the Second Life viewer software. You can find me inworld as Persephone Loon -- just let me know who you are and I'll help get you set up so you can have fun in SL.
