02:06 am - The closing of canon

Reading Deathly Hallows

I got home just a little while ago from purchasing the last book in the Harry Potter series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows".

I got onto the line at the bookstore at around 11:30 PM, at which point it was quite long, wrapping complely around the building, around the corner, and around another corner -- about 2-3 blocks long. I'd pre-ordered the book, so I saw no point in arriving any earlier, especially since the store was having kid-oriented stuff at its release party. After I got onto it, it continued to grow for another block in length before we started to slowly shuffle forward.

I'd dressed as Parvati Patel in a peach shalwar kameez and dupatta, mostly because I like wearing them and this was a chance to do so without seeming too odd. I wore garnet jewelry, in keeping with the Gryffindor color scheme of the lady-suit, although I did have some green and silver on my person as well. There were very few people in outfits that I saw, although I did run into a Death Eater, who from his accent seemed to be Igor, as well as a woman with bushy hair done into two ponytails wearing a Potter Seeker red shirt with gold trim and carrying a Harry doll -- I couldn't quite figure out if she was trying to be Ginny or Hermione.

I now have the book in hand and will shortly be cracking it open to read the final chapters of Potterverse canon. I'm a bit sad that there won't be anymore to this saga, according to its author. At the same time, however, it means that those like myself who write Potterverse fanfiction will no longer have to worry about being "canon-shafted" by further books in the series, since the release of this volume marks the official closure of canon.

Now to read the fate of my favorite characters and find out how good my oracular skills are . . .
